DESCRIPTION

Shalex Membrane is a water based highly flexible clear acrylic membrane designed to provide a waterproof barrier to porous masonry surfaces.
Membrane is well suited to protecting structures that normally do not have physical damp courses (e.g. walls, letterboxes, piers, etc) from rising damp and the effects of efflorescence (hairline cracking, salt deposits, drummy render) that result from moisture travelling upwards in the masonry.

Face bricks, blocks and natural stone can also benefit from membrane as a damp course where a physical barrier is not practical for aesthetic reasons.
Membrane can be used on both horizontal or vertical surfaces and has exceptional flexibility to accommodate substrate movement. Membrane shows no loss of bond strength in masonry walls.

 

PREPARATION - This Step Must Be Followed

While membrane can be applied neat from the pail we recommend priming the surface to assist in sealing.

Apply 1 liberal coat of neat Shalex Sealit Multipurpose as a primer coat, working well into any voids.

Alternatively Membrane can be diluted 1 part in 3 with clean water and mixed well to obtain a sealer mix.

Membrane can be applied immediately after the priming coat turns clear approx 15 mins - dependant on substrate & temperature.

APPLICATION

 

Ensure surfaces are free from loose material, remove dags or protrusions, core fill, patch and repair any voids or large cracks prior to application.
While Membrane can fill larger cracks and voids drying times will be extended where film thickness exceeds 3mm.

Apply with a brush approx 2mm thick covering the entire area and continue to obtain a protruding bulge on extremities or continue one course down.Take care to work membrane into any voids or depressions and ensure any protrusions such as steel rods are well coated.

Allow to dry 12-14 hours depending on conditions. Drying is indicated by the formation of a firm skin on the membrane and is becoming clear.

Membrane is not designed for traffic. Cover accordingly. membrane can be used with or without reinforcing fabrics.
